Early Years Information

                               Welcome to Early Years

Our Early Years department is made up of two mixed aged classes (Nursery/Reception), Dosbarth Coch and Dosbarth Melyn.

Meet the team

P.E

Early Years P.E. will begin again when we return after Easter.

Our P.E. day will be every Wednesday, starting from Wednesday 14th April.

On Wednesdays, all Nursery and Reception children should come into school already wearing their P.E. kit.

We politely request that parents try their best to adhere to our P.E. kit that consists of the following:

- a plain white t-shirt OR plain white polo shirt OR plain white t-shirt with our school logo

- black shorts OR dark coloured leggings OR dark coloured jogging bottoms (weather dependent)

- a school jumper / cardigan

- trainers of any colour OR black pumps

Please ensure that your child has removed any jewellery, including earrings, before coming to school on their P.E. day. Failure to do so will mean that your child cannot take part in the P.E. session.

In order to maintain our class 'bubbles', Nursery children will take part in P.E. sessions on a fortnightly basis, but should continue to come to school every Wednesday wearing their P.E. kit.

Lunch

Children can either have a school dinner or bring a packed lunch from home. If your child is bringing a packed lunch, please ensure that you only send in a small selection of healthy food that your child can easily eat within their lunch time. Juice is allowed for their lunch time only.

If your child is having a school dinner, the menu can be found on our school website. Meals cost £2.40 per day. Please use the link you have been provided with to pay for school meals online.

Snack

At a cost of £1.50 per week, school will provide a healthy snack for children in Nursery and Reception.

Children can choose from a selection of fruit and are encouraged to drink the milk provided.

Please make payments for snack via the School Money online facility (a link will be sent to you via text message). If you have any difficulties paying online, please contact the school office. Payments can be made in instalments, however please ensure that the full amount for the Autumn term is paid by Friday 23rd October (Nursery children £18, Reception children £21).

Thank you for your support with this.

Water

Please provide a water bottle for your child to access throughout the school day. This should be labelled with your child's name.

Acton Park School water bottles are available to buy from school at a cost of £1 each.

Spring and Summer Term Topics

Reading

To fit in with current guidelines and to ensure that we are being as safe as we can with changing reading books, please see below for the Foundation Phase procedure for sending and returning reading books.

Week 1

Your child will be given a reading activity to complete; these will be set on Seesaw (children's log in details will be sent home with children very soon). This will focus on a reading skill, phonics development or spelling. This will focus on either a reading skill, developing phonics or spelling.

Week 2

Your child will be given a new reading book, appropriate to their reading ability, or a library book. Please can you share the book with your child at home and make a note in their reading record about how they managed with their book.

Books and reading activities will be sent home a Friday. The day for returning books and activities to school will be the following Friday. This will allow book bags, books and reading diaries to be quarantined in school before staff handle them to change books.

Staff will be handling the books on a Wednesday/Thursday to allow additional days for you to quarantine these at home if you so wish. This will be at your own discretion.

General Information

Dojo Points

Dojo points are awarded to the children for extraordinary achievements and exceptional behaviour. Staff are always looking for children using their marvellous manners, being a kind and helpful friend and trying their best with their learning.

Children will bring home a 'dojo certificate' or 'golden ticket' when they reach 25 points, 50 points, 75 points and 100 points.
